Description
The Khthones are not one race but many, a myriad of reptilian anthropomorphs created by the Atalantes to be their servants & their menials, vassals to die in battle for them & thralls to bend to their every will, whim or desire. For thousands of years the Khthones suffered this cruel slavery, years of pain & mutilation & barbarity, until their endurance was finally exhausted & the chains that bound them could be borne no more. Led by the Gorgon known as Ophios, the Gorgonares turned on their progenitors & slaughtered them, rousing Krokodar, Lskar, Hydrar & many others of the earth to unite & win freedom; yet the struggle to break free from Atalantia is not so simple, as vengeance must be served & the Atalantes are warriors still.
It is foolhardy to assume that the Gorgonares, & their implacable lord, the Gorgon known as Ophios, are in any way a spent force. Yet there are still some who believe so. Their lands, as all learned men know, have all but disappeared; their civilisation, it is true, may now be marked only by vengeance & fury; their continued existence an anachrony, an evolutionary path that the earth has long since abandoned & wishes had devolved ages past. Yet still they trouble the Atalantians, & others, with their devastating raids, their spite, their sheer brutality. Ophios himself, in his more lucid moments, knows that the more they seek retribution the quicker they will destroy themselves - but equally, to him & his Gorgonares, there is simply no other path they can tread, no other way they wish to live. The followers of the Sun took their lives away from them; then they destroyed the lands they had promised. Ophios knew nothing but slavery & pain before their betrayal. Now he knows nothing but vengeance.
