Description
BOT WAR
Bot War is a 10mm skirmish wargame played on a 3'x3' table. While the scale is 10mm, Bots and other creatures range from 20mm for the smallest Bot to 140mm for the huge combined Bots. The story takes place on an alternate Earth and revolves around two main protagonists: The Democracy, a reflection of 1980s USA, and Atlantica, an underwater kingdom inspired by Atlantis. There are 10 different factions and the game opens after a major, devastating war between The Democracy and Atlantica in which the arrival of Bots saved the Democracy from destruction and slavery. Welcome to Bot War!
DEMOCRACY
Despite the Democracy's three year alliance with the Valiants, they still distrust Bot technology. The Democracy forces are made up of highly trained specialists working as a tight-knit team. They excel in stealth tactics and guerrilla warfare. They rely on regular tanks, helicopters, and other traditional military equipment to do any heavy lifting that is required. The Democracy has perfected this method of war to the point that they can now hold their own against enemy bot forces.
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Murdock Smith and Tom Faceman were a couple of total wasters prior to the first Atlantican war. Basically their life consisted of driving from beach to beach in their beat up Chevrolet van and crashing Spring Break parties, weddings, and whatever other social gathering offered free beer with some degree of anonymity. These guys were on the front lines the day King Gills attacked. Lying face down in a drunken stupor on the beach, the Mermen tanks and Infantry simply walked straight past them. In fact, the two slept off a hangover through the entire city invasion.
When they awoke, it took them some time to work out what had happened. However, as veteran horror movie affictionados, they knew exactly what to do. They made their way to S Mart and loaded up. Incredibly, the pair walked much of the city unchallenged as the attack had moved so fast the garrison hadn't yet caught up. When the garrison did arrive, Murdock and Tom let the swamp creatures have it. Over the next year the pair camped out as vigilantes in the city, using their knowledge of the city's secret party hangouts to build an underground resistance.
When the malady descended onto the minds of the people, Murdock and Tom were not affected. It is supposed their beer-addled minds were missing the connections necessary for the malady to set in. When Atlantica was defeated, the Valiants and Democracy forces found Murdock and Tom along with several of the remaining resistance fighters partying in a department store. The group had already gone several rounds and the Democracy liaisons spent some time explaining to the valiant warrior that the group had not been subject to Atlantican mind experiments. Once sobered, the pair both received medals for their part in the war. Now the pair have been offered a place in Max Starr's Special Branch piloting the Armadillo.
Armadillo is a high tech GMC Vantura Van. Using Bot technology, the van can change into a mobile multiple rocket-launching command post. Once its rockets are launched, it can quickly change back into a van and be back in time for happy hour at the bar.
Thomas Cellick grew up on an island state of the Democracy. Although he went to the Democracy mainland many times throughout his life, the relaxed nature and preference for loud colourful shirts of his island home always called him back. Some mystery still surrounds what he actually did as a profession. Certainly in his younger years he served in the celebrated Democracy Marine Corp. After his term in the corp, he chose to leave and presumably take in a life of leisure -- girls, beer and the beach, Aloha! Almost every man's dream life. Like Brad Hasselhoff, he was in some way affiliated with a wealthy benefactor who was also in some way still attached to the marines. Some speculate if Tom actually left the Marine Corp or was in fact still working for the military in some way. Whatever the truth, Tom is credited with a string of heroic deeds involving the foiled plots of Democracy's enemies. Its certainly true that Mr. Cellick is on Snake Corp and Red Star's top ten pain-in-the-ass lists. Quite a prestigious select group.
It's for this reason that Max Starr chose him for Special Branch. Tom agreed only when his benefactor, Wilson, pushed him into it. Tom pilots Deepdive, a 1984 Ferrari Testarossa. While the car is relatively stock standard on the road, it does hide some secrets. Injected with Bot tech, the car is completely "all terrain." At the push of a button, the car is pressurised and converted into an armoured submarine. This enhancement boasts anti-bot torpedoes (equiped for underwater and ground-to-ground capabilities). The 12 cylinder Bot tech enhanced engine pushes Deepdive to a top underwater speed of 65km per hour with the computer-controlled fin system giving unparalleled handling. Deepdive is so advanced, some puritans within Special Branch suspect banned Atlantican technology has been used in its development.
After the Atlanticans retreated, the Democracy faced a new threat. The Deceivers, now freed from their imprisonment, raided the weakened Democracy. The Valiants were taken by surprise by these early attacks thinking that the Deceivers were still locked in their prison, whereever that may be. It became apparent that the Deceiver attacks seemed focused around science facilities and in particular, science labs in the field of physics. The first attack of this kind was on a lab in the heart of the Democracy capital, just near Chinatown. Professor Von Bron is a particularly gifted physicist, and it was he that headed up the lab. His department wasn't large, but his work was important. Prof Von Bron was an expert in the field of teleportation theory. Along with his trusted assistant Mandy, Von Bron had made several recent breakthroughs that set the global scientific community alight.
Working late one night, Von Bron and Mandy had just completed their final algorithms when there was an almighty crash. The source of the calamity was the mighty Deceiver arm of Avaricon that had plunged into the side of the office block in which they were working and was now trying to rip out the mainframe that stored all of Von Bron's research. Still in a state of shock, Von Bron proved his brilliance by turning on one of his experiments, which teleported Avaricon's hand inside his body. This no doubt caused all kinds of issues for Avaricon, and the giant bot stumbled back, crushing a small green grocer store before crashing to the ground dead (or as dead as bots can be). The remaining 2 Deceivers did not try to reach into the building again and were soon attacked by a Valiant defence force and driven off.
While heralded as a hero, Von Bron was also held in some suspicion by the Democracy Government for the ease at which the Deceiver had been destroyed. All of Von Bron's work and experiments were confiscated. However, you can't keep a good scientist down, and Von Bron knew that if anyone put their mind to it, they could achieve anything! He immediately took out a small loan and got to work in his garage. He rehired Mandy and the pair worked hard for 6 months. When the time was right, Von Bron rolled his 1983 DMC Delorean out of the garage. The car didn't appear in any way different from when he had bought it. However, Von Bron had added a few little tricks to the vehicle in case the Deceivers thought to return. Lucky, because only 2 weeks later Von Bron and Mandy needed those tricks.
As Von Bron and Mandy were on their way downtown to meet two prospective benefactors, COILS Bots Stryke and Blades landed close by, blocking the freeway. The Bots were there to sabotage the construction of a new defence headquarters building. With both Bots backs turned to Von Brons Delorean, he decided this was the perfect time to test his modifications. Hitting the comedic big red button, the car immediately lurched forward. The rear part of the car popped up and two high velocity miniguns folded into position. The bonnet folded to reveal a rack of ground-to-ground missiles. Then Von Bron hit the big green button. It was like the Fourth of July and Blades went down hard. Slyther, being quite fast for his size, turned to see the Delorean racing toward him. Too fast for him to draw his weapon, he instead brought down his fist thinking to flatten the annoying insect. As his fist came down, Von Bron then hit the big yellow button, and in a flash the Delorean instantly disappeared and the fist crashed into the road. Confused, Slyther lifted his fist to see what had happened. At that moment the Delorean reappeared behind Slyther with all guns blazing. Taking several major hits Slyther retreated as fast as he could. The whole battle was over in seconds.
Von Bron immediately returned the Delorean to normal and drove off as Max Starr's team arrived to assess the damage. Eyewitness accounts seem confused with talk of ghost cars and a crazy wild-eyed scientist with a nerdy assistant. Max Starr immediately called his Valiant allies to collect Blades' fallen body. Examining the scene, Max Starr vowed to find the person who had the power and the balls to take on 2 COILS Bots alone and win.
