VENUE

Comfort Inn Aikens Center

Martinsburg, WV 25404

The tournament will be held at the Comfort Inn Aikens Center on Edwin Miller Boulevard in Martinsburg, right off Exit 16E of Interstate 81. The hotel was recently renovated and is in excellent condition. Until 2017, it held the Martinsburg-area gaming convention 1d4 Con, so the staff and owners are familiar with gamers and our eccentricities.

Edwin Miller Boulevard is a main entryway into Martinsburg and a frequent stop-off for I-81 travelers and so is "blessed" with many close-by fast-food establishments for a quick meal. For a lengthier dinner, the Mountaineer Grill & Pub, Mountaineer BBQ & Saloon (get the theme?), and several other locations are within a couple-minute drive from the hotel. Martinsburg also has several locations downtown; be sure to ask any of the hotel staff or any local players for recommendations.

We've secured a room block at the hotel for $89/night for participants under "Mountaineer GT". The room block is not yet open; we'll contact all attendees when it does open with details on booking.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS

The tournament will consist of five rounds, with three rounds on Saturday and an additional two rounds on Sunday. We will be using chess clocks at the event with 65 minutes per player.  If you have a chess clock, please bring it. If someone should time out, we will be using "Finish the Phase" -- that player finishes the phase they're in and then dice down.

First round pairings will be randomly assigned, but participants are allowed to challenge one another for the first round. Challenges must be made and accepted by the list submission deadline. Subsequent rounds will be determined by Swiss pairing based on Battle Points, but we will avoid pairing club members against one another through round 3.

Painting is required for the event. Appearance scores will be factored into players' overall scores for placement.

Additional details on the event and comp pack are coming later this summer and will be shared on the Facebook event page and by email with registered attendees.
